CAPA-MC’s Thanksgiving Dinner

Written by: Fred Bao and Joy Jiang Edited by: Evelyn Shue and Julie Yang On December 1, 2019, 150 people gathered at Gaithersburg High School to celebrate Thanksgiving and the accomplishments of the Chinese American Parents Association of Montgomery County (CAPA-MC). Since its founding four years ago, CAPA-MC has flourished, growing from 40 founding members to its many members and multiple clubs, including the Junior Reporters Club (JRC), ITeach, Youth Service Club (YSC), and Chinese American Parents and Student Association (CAPSA). The clubs have always had the unwavering support of parents and volunteers.

The dinner kicked off by awarding the founding members with certificates of appreciation for their hard work and dedication to make CAPA-MC a success. The JRC, ITeach, YSC, and CAPSA were awarded with medals and chocolate. Awards were also given out to chairs of various CAPA-MC committees.

For the remainder of the dinner, the Potomac 4H Community Club Cleaning Supplies Drive was discussed. The purpose of the Cleaning Supplies Drive is to support the homeless in Maryland and it is accepting paper towels, toilet paper, Windex, Lysol, wipes, and toilet brushes, but other donations are also appreciated. The deadline for donations is December 15.

As the Thanksgiving potluck drew to a close, members of the JRC remembered to be thankful not only for food and friends but also the community that offered them so many opportunities.
