Interview with Xi Van Fleet

Written by CAPA-JRC reporter Angie Shen

Xi Van Fleet is a Chinese-American author, speaker, and political activist known for her outspoken criticism of Marxism and her advocacy for American constitutional principles. Born in China, she experienced the Cultural Revolution firsthand, profoundly shaping her views on communism and authoritarianism. She is currently raising alarm bells about the current state of the American education system. According to Fleet, education is the most pressing issue facing the nation today. He asserts that the education system is now dominated by Democratic ideologies, including Critical Race Theory (CRT) and LGBTQ issues, which she believes are fundamentally altering the landscape of American education.

Fleet argues that these ideologies are not just academic theories but are leading to real-world discrimination. "Discrimination is based on CRT," Fleet states. "They believe that individuals can't succeed on their own and that the government has to determine who should be given priority and who should get privileges and opportunities to go to good and certain schools."

She explains that these ideologies go beyond race, extending to other identities. "Nowadays, if you are queer, you might be given admission based on that identity. This is not merit-based and is fundamentally discriminatory."

To address these issues, Fleet emphasizes the need for action on multiple fronts. First on the  School Level: Parents must get involved in their children's education, advocating for a return to merit-based principles. Next, on the University Level: Ideologies need to be challenged, and legal battles must be fought to ensure educational practices are fair and non-discriminatory. Lastly, continuing Legal Battles: Fighting these issues may require taking cases to the Supreme Court to highlight and challenge discriminatory practices.

Fleet underscores the importance of the home as the primary battlefield. She believes parents must instill the values of meritocracy in their children, emphasizing that this principle is the foundation of the American Dream.” The American Dream is that anyone can succeed in this country, no matter what race, ethnicity, or sexuality. But we only care about one thing: your merit. Merit is what makes America successful, and it should be kept that way if we want to save America."

Xi Van Fleet's message is clear: to preserve the foundational values of America, there must be a concerted effort to reform the education system. By prioritizing merit and ensuring equal opportunities for all, regardless of identity, Fleet believes America can continue to be a land where everyone has the chance to succeed.
